Quick and Easy Way to Repair Small Wood Defects

by Jerry on September 3, 2009

Sometimes a nice piece of  wood has just enough defects to leave the piece sitting in your garage someplace. These minor defects might be worm holes for example. Repairing these can be a pretty quick and easy process, allowing you to make good use of the piece for your next wood project!

All you’ll typically need is a sample of the type of wood you’re repairing, a couple different grits of sandpaper, a rubber sandpaper pad, artist knife, cyanocrylate (super glue) and super glue accellerator.

The process begins with generating enough sawdust from the sample to fill the holes.  Be sure to generate a little extra dust because you won’t have time to go back and sand later. You’ll then place the superglue in the hole and the dust over the top with the artist knife. Repeat this process a few times until the hole is filled completely.  Once done, you’ll want to accelerate the cure time using the superglue accelerator. Just spray a little over the top and a few minutes later you’re ready to sand!
